Finnish fashion changed forever when a textile designer named Armi Ratia took a bit of advice from Ms. Immonen on how to promote sales of the hand-printed cotton fabrics produced by Printex, a company Ms. Ratia owned with her husband. Ms. Immonen, who ran a couture dress shop, suggested turning the boldly patterned cotton cloth into dresses.
