• Who knew it would be hard to give away a $250,000 prize for good writing?
  FieldReport would offer a $250,000 prize for whichever short nonfiction piece received the highest ranking from the site's users by Jan. 1, 2009. "We thought we'd come out with the world's biggest prize for a single piece of writing and suddenly everyone would say, 'Wow this is really cool!'" Instead, almost nobody believed them.
