Bach’s Suite No. 1 for Cello, performed by Pablo Casals (Part I)
The future version of myself who wears vintage couture for all special events is also a woman who has taken up the cello again.
I studied cello in junior high and part of high school before my attention wandered to boys, truancy and clove cigarettes. I can still play scales in my head and the horsehair bow is tucked away somewhere in its padded leather case.
Personal aspirations and disappointments aside, listening to music played on the cello, especially Bach as played by Casals: sublime.

My dad used to take me to the Casals Festival in PR when I was young. It was always a wonderful time.

Sadly, Casals was stuck in the world of Bach, and had little to say for anything composed after Beethoven (and even Ludwig was suspect).
Better cellist have emerged since Pablo, and one of the great masters was Rostropovich. (http://www.ffaire.com/rost/), who sadly passed away at 80 in April.
Rostropovich championed living composers, especially Russian ones. And HIS version of the Bach cello suites is unsurpassed.
By the way, there still is time. Blow the dust off that cello. It needs you.
