Yellow Warbler by Paula McCartney from her series Bird Watching.
Special insomniac RSF photographers edition. For those of you who pay attention to my time stamps (you know who you are): Yes, it's 2:57 AM.
My love of birds is well documented.
I met Paula McCartney while I was at Review Santa Fe and corresponded with her beforehand, but I unfortunately didn't get a chance to sit and go through her portfolio with her. Paula was showing prints from her series Bird Watching. I love the concept, she was highly recommended to me by a few people who know my tastes pretty well and I like what I see online. Here's a snippet from her statement:
In these images I've combined varied natural settings with carefully placed craft store songbirds to create an enhanced landscape. This work explores how nature and fabricated elements can combine to create a scene that questions what is natural, and whether being so holds any intrinsic importance.
Also worth checking out on her website: her series Accumulations and her divine handmade books.

Hey Jen, I'm so glad you put Paula's work and link up here. I totally LOVED her projects and images and you're right, the books are divine, or, well, at least divinely inspired. She also sells those suckers and has whittled down the edition on the various projects. Any rare book librarian's out there reading this? You should contact her and acquire for your collections.

What!? A $25,000 McKnight photography fellowship grant for gluing fake birds to trees and making snaps of them? Really?

Wow. I'm stupidly speechless.
