Road Trip!

Vintage La Posada Postcard
[Ed note: This post got gobbled last night due to some weird server transition issues.]
As I mentioned, I’m totally psyched to be going out to New Mexico for Review Santa Fe. I’ve heard from photographers and reviewers alike that it’s big fun. And I’ve never been to New Mexico. And I just found out that one of my old pals, Gong Szeto is living out there. AND I am going on a road trip. A friend is flying out to meet me and we’re going to spend a week exploring the Southwest. Simply. Cannot. Wait.
On my wish list right now:
- Lightning Field (Update: Based on Todd Gibson’s pilgrimage account this might be untenable.)
- Architect Mary Colter’s landmark railway hotel, La Posada. (Read about the hotel and the town it’s in, Winslow AZ, in a recent NYT article.)
- Cowboy boots!
Tonight a friend recommended Narrow Larry’’s World of the Outstanding, “a very narrow guide to visionary art environments, modern architecture, and travel”… I’m hoping to turn up some more good architecture side trips there, but it seems like a better resource for things like Midwestern Saarinens or LA Modernism. (Good for future planning no doubt, I”ve been itching for a long weekend of photography and architecture in Chicago, ferinstance.)
Additional suggestions are most welcome!

[...] I just came across modernist Charley Harper’s delightful prints and lithos over on Print & Pattern (always good for amazing stylish colorful everything). Now I’m jonesing for one of the vintage serigraphs that are for sale at Treadway Gallery. The two I’ve posted here land smack in the center of the venn diagram of both my current and ongoing obsessions: Midcentury! Birds! (God, I love birds.) Road trips! (I wrote a big long post about my upcoming trip to Santa Fe in the wee hours of this morning and it seems to have disappeared into the ether… must be trouble with the server move. Off to investigate.) Here’s that post I was talking about. [...]
