Amy Ross Opening on Friday!

Turkey Amanita by Amy Ross | 15″ x 11″ | Watercolor on Paper
We are busy bees this week preparing for Friday’s opening. I’m super excited about this exhibition. I haven’t done a painting show in way too long, it’s nice to mix things up a bit, doncha think?
As an aside: we got a little overzealous with the postcard stamping. I have about 25 stamped postcards sitting on my desk with no where to send them to. Want one? Shoot an email to person AT personism DOT com and I’ll send one your way. (And let me know if you’d like to be added to our mailing list permanently.)
Please join us on Friday April 27th from 6pm-8pm at a reception for the artist Amy Ross. Her exhibition of paintings, anima mundi, will remain on view through June 7, 2007.

From the press release:
This is Ross’s first solo exhibition in New York City. She has shown in dozens of exhibitions from Massachusetts to California. Her recent sold-out solo exhibition at Boston’s Allston Skirt Gallery was reviewed in the Boston Globe, which described her work as "beautiful… but packed with moral and emotional complexity." Ross creates spectacularly realistic images of nature, but upon closer look the viewer realizes the illusion; a finch’s head at the tip of a white birch tree, or a tiny quail’s release from a blooming magnolia tree. In her statement Ross writes: "These images subvert the traditional genre of botanical illustration by approaching the close study of the natural world through the lens of genetic engineering and mutation gone awry."
