Coffee Talk

I started writing a long meandering post about my personal relationship with coffee, but I’m going to save that for another day. Or maybe later, or maybe never. My point is this, I have a few things to say about coffee that you’ll probably find more interesting:
Thing 1-
Porto Rico is in the midst of their awesome semi-annual sale. It’s also their 100 year anniversary. Their prices are really good to begin with, so it’s like Crazy Eddie time over there right now. I recommend their Organic Free Trade AND Bird Friendly “Alex’s Blend” which is usually $7.99, now $5.99. How nuts is that?
I love going to the store in person - they have huge sacks of beans everywhere and it smells delicious. I usually go to the St. Mark’s location because it’s near my abode, the Bleecker St. store is the original one I think and the one on Thompson is the size of a closet. You can order online too.

Thing 2: The coffee at Veselka sucks. This makes me sad. I love Veselka, I have been going there since High School. I seem to remember them having good coffee in the past, but lately it’s been downright unpotable.

Thing 3: Joe has the best coffee and art combo going. Yes, I’m biased. But others agree: Time Out NY gave them the nod for best coffeeshop last week and I get a steady stream of emails and inquiries about the photos that are hanging there.
Now I’m off to finish my cup of… tea and scramble on some errands before doing a guest teaching stint over at SVA.
