Im so psyched for that exhibit!!! As for the other arguments, I think I agree with Avedon in that that's definitely a part of capturing the subject, whether they let their guard down or decide to vogue it out (as in the early 90s dance not the magazine). In general, I tend to like portraits where the subject is caught mid-sentence or mid yawn or just caught in a time where he's not expected to be photographed. But that doesn't mean that other kinds of portraits where the people are waiting to be photographed or whatever cant be as beautiful or haunting or offer insight into their soul. (i cant believe i said soul, thats so sappy. but its the truth) That portrait is absolutely wonderful.
