		<description>i love what i am reading, but disagree on one point.... a subject need not be conscious of a photograph being taken of them. i still consider it a portrait when i see the film of (e.g.) my girlfriend who i shot by pulling the camera out of my pocket when she was wandering down the road. i only argue with that point of a subject interacting. she interacts with me, but not the photograph. i find that as being two distict differences. she acts naturally in what i deem portraits of her. when she knows, she has a slight different look to her.</description>

Im so psyched for that exhibit!!!

As for the other arguments, I think I agree with Avedon in that that&#039;s definitely a part of capturing the subject, whether they let their guard down or decide to vogue it out (as in the early 90s dance not the magazine). In general, I tend to like portraits where the subject is caught mid-sentence or mid yawn or just caught in a time where he&#039;s not expected to be photographed. But that doesn&#039;t mean that other kinds of portraits where the people are waiting to be photographed or whatever cant be as beautiful or haunting or offer insight into their soul.
(i cant believe i said soul, thats so sappy. but its the truth)</description>
