Annoyances Related to Del.icio.us

I love Del.icio.us. It's a total internet information-whore nerdfest, and in case you haven't noticed that kind of thing works for me. In a big way. Having it integrated into my blog has been awesome. (Thank you Mr. Kirsch!) There are imperfections, however, which bug me. Here are three, just for today:

Annoyance #1: I wish it updated in real time, damnit. I want to be first, and I want everyone to know it. I found that scandalous Glenn Lowry article in the wee hours of the morning during my insomniac surfing when my RSS reader had given me all the love it could give me and yet I still needed more. (That is scary, considering that I'm subscribed to over 200 feeds.) I expect the technology which I employ in service to my insomnia and lust for information to produce better ego-stroking results, thank you.

Annoyance #2: Garbage referrer codes mess with the network effect. This is especially true with links from the gray lady. They sully their links with gobbledegook all the time, and if you neglect to rid your link of all the trash past the .html in the URL, a) you don't get to be first damnit (not that I'm competitive, not me) and also you are robbed of the joy of seeing who else is linking to the same stuff you are, which is one of the pleasures of Delicious if you ask me. (Pointing out this information to a fellow Delicious addict, a member of my awesome network in fact, garnered the response: "That's the best internet information I've gotten all day." I was hoping for all week since it was before noon when I was explaining it all to her over IM. I'm sure that's what she meant to say.)

Annoyance #3: Link post titles = boringness. I know that the automation creates a lack of customization, so there's probably no elegant work around (although maybe addressing Annoyance #1 would help.) There's nothing worse that seeing a stream of "links for x date" posts in my sidebar or someone elses. Makes a girl glaze right over, it does.

Ok, I'm done with my nerd grousing for the day. For those of you who don't use Delicious and/or who find my links posts boring and symptomatic of lazy blogging, thanks in advance for your forbearance. For those of you who have ideas about how to fix it, I welcome your suggestions, either in comments below or via email: person AT personism DOT com.

I have often wanted to link w/in descriptions too. AND be able to grab images too. But then, when does it just become a blog post?

And why does it feel like such a chore to log in to WP (or MT or Blogger or whateva) and make a post? A lot of what I love about Delicious is the aforementioned network effect, but also, it's easy and often firing up WP seems like too much effort.

I often want to be able to add links and pictures too. I've always thought of delicious as a blog post anyway, so having the ability to do these things does not seem problematic to me. Also, I think the word limitations in the description field do that anyway. Although occasionally I get annoyed with the limit of characters allotted, generally speaking, I think the skill of being able to sum up an article in only a few words is a great one to develop, and fun to show off if you've got it.
