The Way It Is | Addie Juell Opening Tonight!

Addie Juell’s solo debut opens this evening and I can’t wait for people to feast their eyes on her gorgeous photos. Jenni Holder introduced us a while back, and I’m so glad she did. To quote myself (can I do that?) from the gallery press release…
I am constantly reviewing new work, and its rare that I find something truly unique. Juells work struck me immediately because it was something I’d never seen before. She uses materials, colors and images that are thought of as feminine and harmless to communicate a very nuanced set of ideas interwoven with a bawdy sense of humor. This remix of high and low is simultaneously sophisticated and unassuming. When viewing her works in person, you can see the imperfections of the human hand in the composition. You can see that the stickers might have been created with perfect symmetry, consistency and borders, but through Juells unique process, the end result is something that is clearly handmade and filled with wit.
You can view more images or read the entire press release, but if you are in NYC, you should definitely make your way to the gallery and see the photos in person. Digital images do the work no justice.
The reception is tonight from 6pm - 8pm, and the gallery is located at 6 Spring St, between Elizabeth + Bowery.
See you later!
